1　シロバナノハンショウヅル（キンポウゲ科）Clematis williamsii A. Gray

［採集地］下田．

山林の中に生える蔓植物で，茎は木化する．葉は対生，3枚の小葉を持つ複葉で，小葉は外形卵形，さらに深く3又は2裂し，裂片にも深い鋸歯がある．若い時には下面に長い毛がある．4～6月に新しい枝の基部に花梗を出し，その先端に1個の花をつける．花は下向きに咲き，鐘形で白い萼があり，長さは1.5～2cm，4枚の萼片があって花弁はない．多数の雄しべと多数の単心性の雌しべがある．果実に長い羽毛がある．

本種は黒船の植物採集家S. W. Williamsにより初めて下田で採集され，ハーバード大学の教授A. Grayが同氏を記念して命名発表した．展示の標本はその原標本である．

［分布］暖帯：本州（東海道，南近畿），四国，九州．日本特産．

［Locality］Shimoda.

［Distrib.］Warm-temperate zone：Endemic to Japan, occurring in Tokaido and Kinki Districts of the Main Island, Shikoku and Kyushu.

This species was first collected by Mr. S. Wells Williams, a plant collector on board the ‟Blak Ship”, and was named in honor of him by Asa Gray of Harvard University.

2　カキラン（ラン科）Epipactis thunbergii A. Gray

地上蘭で，茎の高さは30～70cm，挟卵形の葉6～10枚を互生する．葉身の長さは7～12cm，花は茎頂の総状花序に十数個着き，長さ15mm位，黄褐色から黄色を帯びる．

この標本が本種の基準標本 (Holotype) である．

［分布］日本（北海道から九州），朝鮮，ウスリー，中国（東北）．海岸の松林等の林下に生える．

［Locality］Prov. Izu, Shimoda.

［Distrib.］Japan (Hokkaido to Kyushu) Korea, Chinese Northeast and Ussuri. Growing in pine and other coastal woods. This is the holotype specimen at Harvard University.

3　キンラン（ラン科）Cephalanthera falcata (Thunb.) Blume
(Cephalanthera japonica A. Gray)

地上蘭で，茎の高さは70cm前後，広被針形の葉6～8枚があり，葉身は10cm位．総状花序には3～12個の花があり，花は黄色．

この標本は本種がC. japonica A. Grayとして記載発表された時の基準標本である．

［分布］本州から九州までの丘陵地の林下に生え，朝鮮と中国に分布する．

［Locality］Prov. Izu, Shimoda.

［Distrib.］From Japan (Main Island, Shikoku and Kyushu) westwards to Korea and China. Growing in deciduous forests on low hills.

This is the holotype of Cephalanthera japonica A. Gray, now treated as a synonym of Cephalanthera falcata, which is based on much earlier name, Serapias falcata Thunberg.

4　カンスゲ(カヤツリグサ科) Carex morrowii Boott

［採集地］伊豆，下田

暖地の林下に生え，叢生する多年草，葉は常緑で，草質，深緑色で多少光沢がある．鞘は栗褐色で後に繊維状に分解する．茎は高さ20～40cm，4～6個の小穂を着ける．

葉が白色の斑入りのものが栽培される．本標本は副基準標本（Isotype）である．正基準標本は英国のキュー植物園に保存されている．

［分布］本州（福島県以南），四国，九州の主として太平洋側．日本特産．

［Locality］Prov. Izu, Shimoda.

［Distrib.］Endemic to Japan, occurring mainly on the Pacific side of Main Island (Fukushima Pref, and southwestwards), Shikoku and Kyushu.

Plants with white-variegated leaves are often cultivated in Japanese gardens. This is an isotype specimens, of which the holotype is kept at the Kew Gardens.
